Not long after this, he was offered the Assistant Director position under the mentorship of the inimitable Alex Morris. In February 2012, Lionel took on the Musical Directorship of the chorus, leading the chorus to an international 14th place ranking and the highest score achieved by any Australian Chorus at the 2013 Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention in Toronto.
